Grand River Watershed

Dunnville is a quiet, picturesque community of 12,000 in Haldimand County. Located along the beautiful shores of the Grand River, our community is situated right on Hwy # 3, between the Niagara and Hamilton regions, and less than an hour away from the U.S. border crossing at Fort Erie.

The Grand River is one of the best kept secrets in Ontario's South Coast. So rich with history and culture that it was designated a Canadian Heritage River in 1994. Dunnville is your gateway to the Southern Grand River Valley. The community is directly accessible by boat from Lake Erie, just a few kilometers upstream from Port Maitland.

The Dams at Dunnville and Caledonia create enough depth so that boating on the Grand has become a very popular source of fun. Unfortunately no locks are installed so navigation along the whole length is not possible. However, by kayak there is only one short portage around the Dunnville Dam along the entire stretch from Caledonia to Port Maitland. A nature lover's paradise, the area features one of the largest expanses of provincially significant wetlands to be found anywhere in Ontario - perfect for bird watching, and nature photography.

The rest of the river is famous for it's variety of scenic terrain, history and culture. To learn more about the Grand River visit the Grand River Conservation Authority Web Site.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

It is strongly suggested that you find and print a reliable map for driving purposes. This will allow you to arrive on time for your reservation. Please note that some tours cannot leave beyond a certain time in order that paddling occurs during daylight hours. Please also note that your tour may not be the only tour your guide does that day, and being excessively late may jeopardize your reservation.
