Vibrams Five Fingers are a shoe, sort of. They're a slipper, sort of. Water shoe, kind of.
You almost have to see these to understand. A shoe with individual "toes", hence the name 5 Fingers.

Growing in popularity amongst barefoot runners and paddlesports enthusiasts, Vibrams give you the closest experience to being barefoot, without actually being barefoot.
Vibrams is a well-known manufacturer of soles for other brands of outdoor shoes, and the technology and expertise is used to make the soles for Five Fingers. It's very flexible, and conforms to your foot without the overly built-up support of a traditional shoe. Vibrams claims this returns walking to its barefoot roots, and results in a more natural gait. You can truly feel the ground beneath your feet.

They are growing in popularity with paddlers and for yoga, exercise, or just relaxing!
They come in 4 different models, the Classic, The Sprint (like the Classic, but with an additional strap over the foot), the KSO (for Keeps Stuff Out), and the Flow, which has a neoprene upper and fits like a water sock (with toes!) They come in lots of cool colours, in men's and women's sizes.
They take a bit of getting used to, but after an hour of wearing mine, I literally forgot they were there.

On long kayaks trips, I truly appreciate the minimalist lack of bulk under the deck you sometimes get with neoprene boots or water shoes. I can wiggle my individual toes when my feet get tired, and I'm keenly aware of my feet on my foot pegs.
