We’ve introduced literally hundreds of people to kayaking with this fun and informative Saturday morning lesson!
This introductory workshop is designed for first-time paddlers looking to get the basics of kayaking in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The perfect course for those unsure if paddling is a sport they intend to pursue further, or for those simply curious to dispel some
of the popular myths about kayaking (no, you don’t need to know how to Eskimo
roll to enjoy kayaking !) Kayaks are harder to flip over than you think, we guarantee it !
Join us for a 2.5 hour “kayak primer” on Saturday mornings from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon. We’ll cover the basics of kayak types and necessary safety gear, terminology, and optional gear and gadgets, followed by approximately 90 minutes of on-water time to give you a feel for recreational kayaking in shallow, sheltered waters in one of our stable, comfortable kayaks.
You will learn and practice a variety of paddle strokes including the forward stroke, reverse stroke, sweep strokes, draws, and you will be introduced to the low brace.
This course is a prerequisite to our Intro to Rescue course, as well as any intermediate to advanced level paddling tours.
