The next step after Introduction to Kayaking !
Would you know what to do if your kayak capsized accidentally ?
Here’s your opportunity to learn basic rescue techniques in a controlled environment.
We’ll start with the wet exit, and teach you a variety of assisted and solo rescues that will get you back into your kayak and on your way.
Topics covered will include :
- Wet exit
- Capsize prevention included low and high bracing
- Assisted Rescues : T-Rescue, Eskimo bow rescue
- Self-rescue with paddle float
- Contact tow
- Review of recommended safety gear
Meet at Grand River Kayak at 1:00 PM for registration and equipment fitting, then follow us to the beach. You will be driving your own vehicle to the beach on Lake Erie, about 6 or 7 minutes’ drive. If you are bringing your own kayak, you will not need to unload your boat and gear from your vehicle until we get to the Lake. Expect to be on the water for approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. This course combined with our Intro to Kayaking will give you the necessary skills to be a safe and confident paddler in calm, sheltered conditions.
Please note that our Intro to Kayaking course (or equivalent experience) is a
prerequisite to this course. Both courses are required for anyone wishing to
participate in any intermediate to advanced kayak tours.
