Tanya's Story

My name is Tanya Sullivan

I am a 44 year old female.
I am co-owner of Grand River Kayak.
I have breast cancer.

Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime?
That’s a scary statistic.

I was diagnosed in March 2016 and I am currently undergoing treatment at Hamilton’s Juravinski Cancer Center. I started chemotherapy at the beginning of May, and will need surgery and radiation as well.
This diagnosis will greatly affect the nature of our business this season.

You may or may not see me around.
When you do see me, I will look different, and may interact differently, too.
But I am still me.
Just tired.
Feel free to say "Hi!", and drop off fresh fruits or vegetables. I can always use them to juice!

Stand Up Paddleboarding is my FAVORITE sport! Since the first time I got on a board, it was LOVE AT FIRST STROKE! I now do lessons, run tours and enjoy teaching our SUP Yoga classes. I won't be doing that this summer but I will be next season!!! Maybe I'll even dabble in Race SUP??

What we have done this season is offer you an opportunity to “Win an SUP Package” and support a good cause!!
One of the things I did a couple of years ago, was pose nude with an amazing group of ladies in support of “By the Willow” Hospice Day Away Program.

Little did I know that I would eventually personally partake in this program myself.
It has been so helpful to have the support of these wonderful people who run the program and those that are there participating because of their own life threatening/altering conditions.
The proceeds of this package will be donated to “By the Willow” to help them run this program.
I wanted to make sure that when I chose an organization to donate money to, that I would see the benefit and impact that it would provide.

Many thanks to Aaron Pilon at BluWave SUP for their generous donation of a “Give Pink” Edition Carbon Bamboo SUP Paddle valued at $299.99 & "Give Pink, Ride Blu" Trucker Hat towards our Prize Package..
BluWave SUP generously donates a portion of all sales of their  Woody 10.6 "Give Pink" SUP and "Give Pink" Carbon Bamboo Paddle to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Grand Prize Package includes:
BluWave SUP Woody 10.6 “Give Pink” Edition Stand Up Paddleboard
BluWave SUP Carbon Bamboo “Give Pink” Edition SUP Paddle

Tanya, Ed and family. I am so very sorry to learn about the diagnosis. I was diagnosed with brain cancer 10 years ago this June so I know about the fear, the total exhaustion and the treatments you are enduring. More importantly, I know about how important family is at a time like this and I know you have a great one that will be there you to support you through this journey. Wishing you a speedy recovery . . . Hugs from Gisela.

I now give back at the wellwood centre. I feel its necessary to give back. Please feel free to contact me if you ever need guidance or support and that’s what we do help you get to the next steps. I encourage you to get the help from friends and family and most important keep positive.. Best of Luck and love Jan
