2018 DATES : Most Saturday Mornings (See Available Dates Above)
TIME : 10:30am to 1:30pm
LOCATION : Grand River

We’ve introduced literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of people to kayaking with this fun and informative Saturday morning lesson over the last decade!

This introductory workshop is designed for first-time paddlers looking to get the basics of recreational kayaking in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The perfect course for those unsure if paddling is a sport they intend to pursue further, or for those simply curious to dispel some of the popular myths about kayaking (no, you don’t need to know how to Eskimo roll to enjoy kayaking!)

  • Kayaks are harder to flip over than you think, we guarantee it !
  • Want to know the difference between a sit-on-top, sit-inside, recreational, day touring or sea kayak?
  • Do you know what the legal requirements are for mandatory safety gear?
  • Learn to get in a kayak and adjust the seat and foot pegs for comfort
  • Practice the common paddle strokes with a focus on good ergonomics, comfort and efficiency

Join us for a 2.5 hour kayak primer on Saturday mornings from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm and discover for yourself.
We’ll cover the basics of kayak types and necessary safety gear, terminology, and optional gear and gadgets, followed by approximately 90 minutes of on-water time to give you a feel for recreational kayaking in shallow, sheltered waters in one of our stable, comfortable kayaks.

You will learn and practice a variety of paddle strokes including the forward stroke, reverse stroke, sweep strokes, draws, and you will be introduced to the low brace.

This course is a prerequisite to our Intro to Rescue course, as well as any intermediate to advanced level paddling tours.

If a date does not appear in the drop down list, it has been sold out.
