Sea Kayaks, sometimes referred to as Touring Kayaks, are longer and narrower for efficient long distance paddling. The choice for paddlers who are continually challenging their kayaking skills. Sea Kayaks have the most advanced hull characteristics, geared towards providing better tracking, more maneuverability, lower windage, or more storage. It is not uncommon to find either a rudder or a skeg (or in some instances, both) to aid with directional control.

The Sea Kayak category is also typically where you will find the widest variety of construction methods – rotomolded plastic, thermoformed plastic, fibreglass, kevlar and carbon fibre are all common materials.
