Expanded version of our popular “Intro To Kayak” Saturday morning lesson.
This program SELLS OUT every year!
Reserve early to avoid disappointment!

Designed for beginners, to provide more time to practice the skills taught, like the forward stroke, turning, and directional control, compared to our 2.5 hour Saturday morning lesson.
Each of the four 90 minute sessions will build on a progression of skills, so that at the end of 4 weeks you will have learned the necessary theory and sufficient practical skills to be a competent paddler in calm conditions on flat water, over a total of six hours of instruction. There will be plenty of practice time under the direction of your instructor.

Students will be encouraged to try a variety of kayaks and paddles, to better learn the differences and similarities between designs.
This lesson takes place at Grand River Kayak. We will depart and return to our shop, so there is no need to shuttle or portage. We designed this lesson to make it easy to learn to kayak.
This is a perfect time of evening to enjoy the river, too!

Topics covered:

  • Mandatory Safety Equipment for human-powered watercraft in Canada
  • Optional paddling gear
  • Boat design
  • Paddle design
  • How to select the proper boat and gear to suit your needs

Skills taught:

  • Setting up the kayak for your personal preferences
  • Launching/Landing from a shoreline or dock
  • Balance
  • Forward paddling
  • Reverse paddling
  • Directional control

…And more, as time allows

Want to learn to kayak, but don’t have 4 Tuesdays available for this course?
You should check out our Saturday morning “Intro to Kayak” Lesson!!

Our Paddling Lesson fees always include all of the required equipment and the services of a qualified, professional and friendly instructor. If you wish to provide your own kayak or gear, please discuss this with us in advance. We encourage students to learn using their own equipment, but occasionally your kayak or gear may not be appropriate for the intended lesson.
Please note that we do not provide a discount on any lessons shorter than a full day in length (Paddle Canada lessons) for providing your own gear.
