Not only is this an economic option to own your own handcrafted Greenland Paddle, there's also the pride that comes from knowing that you shaped the paddle yourself, under the careful guidance of an expert paddle-maker!
Tom Froese from T & J Custom Paddles will show you how!
Classes sizes are kept small for maximum attention from the instructor. Starting with your physical dimensions, your "blank" Western Red Cedar paddle arrives at class with the basic shape cut out. Over the next 4 hours, Tom will guide you through the process of shaping your paddle with nothing but basic hand tools. You'll leave class with a finished, rough-sanded Greenland paddle that you can take home and finish however you choose; leave it rough, fine sand to a silky smooth finish, stain, paint, oil, add graphics, whatever your heart desires.
About your instructor:
With generations of woodworking in his blood and open water on his mind, Tom Froese began building kayaks and paddles ten years ago in St. Catharines, Ontario. An avid paddler and lover of the beauty and simplicity of Greenland style kayaking, Tom realized a reasonably priced, quality Greenland kayak paddle was not available commercially.
After building many paddles and exploring various materials he decided to offer other paddlers a high quality, custom-sized product of value.
COMPARE THE COST OF THIS WORKSHOP TO THE TYPICAL PRICE OF $250-$400 FOR A PROFESSIONALLY MADE AND FINISHED PADDLE. THIS IS THE PERFECT WAY TO START EXPERIENCING THE TRADITION OF PADDLING WITH SKINNY STICK!
